Gastronomic Culture
Speaking of Vietnam, you cannot miss its superb gastronomic culture. Depending on the conditions of life, climate, geography and customs of each region, every dishes carry their own specific features. You will certainly be seduced by our gastronomy which is full of color, flavors and ingredients. Today, in this article we present you the most prominent specialties of Vietnam.
The first destination in our circuit is Hanoi - the capital of Vietnam which is not only known for its “36 streets” in the Old Quarter and its historical sites but also for its gastronomic culture.
Going around the old scattered streets with sweet fragrance of milk flowers by cyclo in late fall, we discover together the gastronomy of Hanoi. Bun Cha Hanoi is one of the most famous dishes – an indispensable specialty of the Capital of Vietnam that US President Obama had dinner in his visit to Vietnam in May 2016.
We can say that the Pho is the pride of Hanoi people. The secret of seduction of Pho is its soup which is considered a traditional mark of Pho Hanoi. Besides the condiments (chili sauce, pepper, lemon juice, pepper), salads and odoriferous herbs (water mint, holly, ...) are also a necessary part of a delicious bowl of Pho.
Our second destination is Hue – the citadel city of Vietnam. Coming here, we will introduce you a local speciality which has conquered the flavor of difficult persons. This is Bun Bo Hue.
Bun bo Hue is a spicy beef noodle soup which is served with pork knuckles, lemongrass and chiles. Actually, it isn’t dificult to find a restaurant serving Bun Bo Hue in all cities of Vietnam, but only in Hue that you can taste it original and specific flavor.
Then, we invite you to Saigon – Vietnam's economic center, to taste Goi Cuon (spring rolls) - a very popular dish consisting of fresh vegetables, sliced pork, shrimps, rice vermicelli wrapped in rice paper and to be eaten with a special sauce.
An essential part of the Goi Cuon is Nuoc Tuong consisting of soy sauce with a little chili, peanut. It's a special sauce that awakens the elites of this dish.
Under the same roll form as the Goi Cuon but the Cha Gio will make you a very different flavor. It is a type of stuffed pies that are often taken with vegetables and sauce.
Another popular specialty of Vietnam is Banh Xeo which is a pancake made of rice flour and turmeric, folded in half and filled with pork sliced or minced shrimp, seeds and bean sprouts.
Banh Xeo is eaten with mustard leaves or lettuce leaves and different herbs and nuoc mam (fish sauce).
Due to the limit of this article, we cannot introduce all the specialities of Vietnam yet just several best-known specialities only. Perhaps, you only know Pho when someone mentions Vietnamese food but Vietnamese food has a lot more to offer. The list of the hundred of specialities from the North to South of Vietnam is endless and now, it is your turn to discover every single one of them. However, thanks to this article, we hope that you will understand the important part of our gastronomic culture.
Through some of our specialities, it is easy to see that most Vietnamese dishes are usually served with one or more fresh vegetables, especially salads and fragrant herbs used as condiments which is very good for you health. Unfortunately, our words will never be enough to describe the flavor of these Vietnamese dishes. So, come to Vietnam, see and taste for yourself the mysticism of our specialties.
